There are a multitude of different diets that work very well for a certain amount of time. The list really is almost endless, but no matter which diet you choose you always start out with great motivation to lose weight. After that initial burst of enthusiasm you easily manage to lose several pounds in the first few days.
Then suddenly the weight doesn’t appear to be coming off quite so quickly, so you respond by reducing your calorie intake even more. Now though you start to get cravings for certain types of food, and you realize this isn’t the easiest way to lose weight. This is because your body is burning energy quicker than it can convert fat. In effect you’re starting to run on empty, so you get these food cravings to restore the body’s natural balance. It stands to reason then that your diet is not meeting your nutritional needs. This is the problem with most fad or niche diets that promise fast weight loss.
Below are several less extreme diets that work extremely well and are also highly nutritious into the bargain. They may not be suitable for you if you are looking for quick ways to lose weight, but if you wish to lose weight consistently over the long term you will find them much safer, healthier and easier to stick to.
The Macrobiotic Diet
This diet consists of eating the following foods; fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, brown rice and soy bean products. Moderate amounts of fish may also be eaten. This high fibre diet is very popular with those interested not just in maintaining their physical health, but their spiritual well being also.
The Glycemic Index Diet
The common name for this diet is the GI diet. The shopping list for this diet includes the following; oats, bran, barley, basmati rice, pasta, skimmed milk, chick peas and plain yoghurt.
The Raw Food Diet
It is believed that heating food above 41 degrees Celsius destroys the nutrients and enzymes it contains. Some examples of edible raw food are; nuts, vegetables, fruits, seeds and sushi.
The Organic Diet
In common with the previous diets the menu for the organic diet includes fruits and vegetables. However, organic foods must be totally free of pesticides and preservatives. The emphasis is to avoid processed food or foods that were not prepared in a humane manner. This is an immensely popular diet and is responsible for an increase in billion dollar companies providing organic products to an ever widening market.
Whichever diet or combination of diets you choose remember you must never allow your body to go into starvation mode. If that occurs your chances of losing weight consistently will seriously be diminished. Maintaining a healthy weight is a good idea but never lose sight of the fact you must receive all the necessary minerals, trace elements and nutrients to ensure good health and well being.
